Welcome

Welcome

Upward Bound provides fundamental support to students in grades 9th -12th during their preparation for college entrance. The program provides opportunities for participants to succeed in their pre-college performance and ultimately in their higher education pursuits. Upward Bound serves high school students from low-income families; and high school students from families in which neither parent holds a bachelor's degree. The goal of Upward Bound is to increase the rate at which participants complete secondary education and enroll in and graduate from institutions of postsecondary education.

Upward Bound at George Washington University (GWU) serves approximately 60 participants from local Washington DC public or public charter schools. We are located uniquely in the School of Medicine & Health Sciences (SMHS) and provide weekly tutoring, SAT/ACT prep work, bi-weekly supplemental instruction in Math, Science, English and American Sign Language. Participants are also able to earn opportunities to travel on several college tours and experiential learning trips throughout the year.
